Come out and join us on Sunday June 4, 2017 to fight ALS.
History of the CakeEater Classic:
This event is dedicated to the memory of Jerry Walsh, Jr. Jerry was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and businessman who lived in Ilion, NY. He was stricken with ALS and after 15 months died on August 13, 2008. It is our wish that no other family suffer as ours has due to this illness. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. It is a fatal disease that attacks the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement and muscle power. A person with ALS loses his/her ability to walk, speak, swallow, and eventually breathe. Yet in most patients their mind remains unaffected. It is said that they are trapped in a body that no longer works.
We hope that our family and friends can do something to help both the patients and families who are currently struggling with this disease. We would also like to help continue research so a cure might be found. We feel this is our way of keeping Jerry’s memory alive and giving some meaning to his death.
